Our story
SweetBabyNames started with a simple idea: choosing a name should feel joyful, not overwhelming. Instead of endless lists, we show you what parents are actually choosing in each country, what each name means, and where it comes from.
Today our database covers 3787 first names and 51167 surnames across 60 countries — and it grows every time a new official ranking is released.
How we research names
- Rankings come from official sources such as the U.S. Social Security Administration, the UK Office for National Statistics, Ireland’s CSO and France’s INSEE.
- Where no official ranking exists, we say so and label the best available source clearly.
- Meanings and origins are added only when the etymology is well established.
- Every list shows its source, and we refresh rankings when new data is released.
